AERO Vodochody has signed new contracts for the delivery of L-39 Skyfox aircraft to customers in Angola and North America, expanding the aircraft’s presence into two additional markets and strengthening the programme’s international order book.
The agreements bring the L-39 Skyfox to Africa and North America for the first time, adding to its existing customer base in Europe and Asia. According to the company, the aircraft covered by both contracts are already in production and will be delivered under agreed schedules.
In Angola, AERO Vodochody signed a contract for the delivery of up to four L-39 Skyfox aircraft, along with associated training and support services. The aircraft will be operated by the Angolan Air Force, making Angola the first African customer for the programme.
The company said the customer had initially considered overhauling its existing L-39 Albatros fleet before opting to acquire new-build Skyfox aircraft.
“We are very pleased to have confirmed our first customer from the African continent. The Skyfox aircraft for the Angolan Air Force will also become the first aircraft of this type to operate in the Southern Hemisphere,” said Viktor Sotona, President and Chairman of the Board of AERO Vodochody.
A separate agreement was signed with a customer in North America from the civil aviation sector. In addition to aircraft deliveries, the partnership includes commercial representation of the L-39 Skyfox programme in the region. AERO Vodochody said preparations are underway for the delivery of the first Skyfox aircraft to operate in North America.
Sotona said the North American agreement would not only introduce the Skyfox to another continent but also support the aircraft’s promotion to potential operators in the region.
The new contracts follow a series of recent orders for the aircraft. AERO Vodochody said it has secured orders for nine L-39 Skyfox aircraft over recent months, including two aircraft under option agreements. The company also reported additional contracts for the overhaul of legacy L-39 Albatros aircraft.
According to AERO Vodochody, the combined value of recent aircraft and support contracts exceeds €200 million. The company added that the latest orders have filled its production capacity through the second quarter of 2027.
The L-39 Skyfox is a jet trainer and light tactical aircraft designed for pilot training, reconnaissance and other military missions. The aircraft is available in configurations compatible with both Western and Eastern operational requirements and is certified to European Union and NATO standards.
AERO Vodochody, based in the Czech Republic, manufactures military trainer aircraft and provides aircraft development, production, maintenance and modernization services for civil and military customers.
