AerCap has placed a direct order for 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, further expanding its widebody aircraft portfolio and reinforcing its position as the world’s largest owner of the Boeing 787 family.
Announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, the aircraft are scheduled for delivery through 2033 and will be powered by GE Aerospace GEnx-1B engines. The agreement also includes substitution rights for the larger 787-10 variant, providing AerCap with greater flexibility to meet evolving airline demand for additional passenger capacity.
The latest order reflects continued demand for fuel-efficient, long-range aircraft as airlines modernise fleets and expand international networks. According to AerCap, the Boeing 787 family delivers up to 25% lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared with the aircraft it replaces, while the 787-10 offers approximately 50 more seats than the 787-9.
AerCap became the first aircraft lessor to take delivery of a Boeing 787 in 2013. Since entering commercial service, the 787 family has carried more than 1.3 billion passengers and enabled airlines to launch over 540 new nonstop routes worldwide.
