AerCap delivers first A321neo to Azerbaijan Airlines

AerCap Holdings has delivered the first of three new Airbus A321neo aircraft to Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), marking the airline’s introduction of the A321neo into its fleet.

The aircraft was handed over during a ceremony at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Hamburg and forms part of a broader fleet modernization agreement signed in 2024. The program includes three A321neos and three A320neos, with the first two A320neos delivered earlier this year. The remaining aircraft are scheduled for delivery through November 2026.

Peter Anderson, CCO at AerCap, said the company is pleased to be the first lessor to introduce the A321neo to AZAL and support the airline’s expansion and modernization plans.

“The addition of these new, fuel-efficient aircraft will enhance AZAL’s operational capabilities, support its network expansion, and deliver an improved passenger experience,” Anderson said.

AZAL described the arrival of the A321neo as an important milestone in its long-term fleet renewal strategy.

“The arrival of our first Airbus A321neo represents another significant step in AZAL’s long-term fleet modernization strategy,” said Jamil Manizade, CCO of Azerbaijan Airlines. “As we continue investing in next-generation aircraft, we are strengthening our operational capabilities, improving fuel efficiency, and creating new opportunities for sustainable network growth.”

Manizade added that the delivery, following the recent induction of A320neo aircraft, supports the airline’s ambition to build a modern, efficient, and passenger-focused fleet capable of meeting the growing demands of Azerbaijan’s aviation sector.

With the addition of the A321neo, AZAL continues to expand its next-generation Airbus fleet while improving fuel efficiency and supporting future network growth.
