Abelo completes delivery of three new ATR 72-600s to Air Astra

Aircraft lessor Abelo has completed the delivery of three brand-new ATR 72-600 aircraft to Bangladesh-based Air Astra, supporting the airline’s fleet expansion and its plans to strengthen domestic and regional air connectivity across the country.

The delivery of the third aircraft marks the completion of the agreement between Abelo and Air Astra. The new turboprops will support Air Astra’s growing operations as the carrier responds to rising demand for regional air travel in Bangladesh.

The ATR 72-600 is designed for short-haul and regional operations, combining capacity and operational efficiency with lower fuel consumption compared with larger aircraft. Its suitability for regional networks makes it particularly relevant to markets where airlines are looking to expand connectivity between secondary cities and major hubs.

Stephen Gorman, CEO of Abelo, said the company was pleased to support Air Astra’s expansion with the delivery of the three aircraft. “We are thrilled to partner with Air Astra to deliver these state-of-the-art ATR 72-600s, supporting their ambitious expansion in Bangladesh’s vital regional aviation market,” Gorman said.

He added that the agreement reinforces Abelo’s focus on turboprop leasing and its efforts to provide operators with modern, fuel-efficient aircraft capable of supporting regional connectivity.

For Air Astra, the three aircraft represent an important addition to its fleet and are expected to provide additional capacity to meet growing passenger demand while supporting service improvements.

Imran Asif, Ph.D., CEO of Air Astra, said the airline was pleased to strengthen its fleet with the new ATR 72-600s. “These three new ATR 72-600s from Abelo will enable us to meet rising demand and elevate service quality for our passengers,” Asif said.

As part of the US-Bangla Group, Air Astra aims to expand reliable and cost-effective regional air services while contributing to the development of Bangladesh’s aviation sector.

The latest deliveries highlight the continuing role of new-generation turboprops in supporting regional aviation growth, particularly in markets where efficient fleet deployment and connectivity between smaller cities remain key priorities.

For Abelo, the agreement also strengthens its position in the regional turboprop leasing market, while for Air Astra, the arrival of the three ATR 72-600s provides additional capacity to support its growth strategy in Bangladesh.
