The Latvian national airline airBaltic is set to enhance its training capabilities with the addition of a second Airbus A220 full flight simulator, scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2024. This new simulator will significantly bolster the airline’s training infrastructure, supporting the growing needs of its Pilot Academy and expanding fleet.

Currently operating 48 aircraft with plans to add 10 more by 2025, airBaltic faces increasing demand for pilot training. The arrival of the new simulator will address this need, providing crucial support for both recurrent and initial training, as well as technical maintenance.

Martin Gauss, CEO and President of airBaltic, said, “The addition of a second Airbus A220 simulator is a significant step forward in our continuous effort to provide world-class training for our pilots. As our fleet and operations grow, so does our commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and excellence in pilot training. This investment not only supports the future growth of airBaltic, but also strengthens our position as a key player in the global aviation industry.”

The new simulator will offer up to 6,000 hours of training availability per year, optimizing usage for pilot and technical personnel training, and will be available for rent to other airlines, maximizing its utility.

As one of only two full-flight simulators for the Airbus A220 in Northern Europe, airBaltic’s expansion underscores its role as a leading training hub in the region. The new simulator will feature cutting-edge technology, including the CAE7000XR Series FFS with CAE Tropos 6000XR visual system, providing unparalleled realism and performance.

The new simulator will enhance airBaltic’s fleet training, offer advanced opportunities for technical personnel, and expand the Pilot Academy’s curriculum, including Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) courses. Additionally, it will allow airBaltic to rent slots to other airlines, optimizing the facility’s use. As one of only two Airbus A220 simulators in Northern Europe, this expansion cements airBaltic’s role as a key regional training hub.
