U.S. Air Force receives Boeing's first MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopter
The MH-139A program is a collaborative effort between Boeing, the prime contractor, and Leonardo, the original equipment manufacturer.

MH-139A is specifically engineered to safeguard intercontinental ballistic missile systems and facilitate the transportation of U.S. government personnel and security forces.

Boeing has completed the delivery of the inaugural MH-139A Grey Wolf production helicopter to the United States Air Force. This delivery marks the fulfillment of part of a Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) contract from 2023. the contract includes a total of 13 helicopters. The first unit is designated for deployment at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana.

In 2024, the U.S. Air Force expanded the contract by awarding an additional seven MH-139A helicopters to Boeing. With the six Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) aircraft previously delivered, Boeing now has a total of 26 MH-139A aircraft under contract.

Azeem Khan, MH-139 executive director, and program manager, Boeing said, “This aircraft will directly support ongoing U.S. Air Force modernization efforts. Delivering this asset for the MH-139A fleet is critical to the future of national security as the Grey Wolf will play a crucial role in the U.S. nuclear triad for decades to come.”

The Boeing MH-139A Grey Wolf is a multi-mission rotorcraft derived from the commercial AW139 platform. It is specifically engineered to safeguard intercontinental ballistic missile systems and facilitate the transportation of U.S. government personnel and security forces. Assembled in the United States, the MH-139A offers an off-the-shelf solution that integrates advanced performance capabilities, operational versatility, and robust safety features.

The MH-139A program is a collaborative effort between Boeing, the prime contractor, and Leonardo, the original equipment manufacturer. Leonardo manufactures the baseline AW139 helicopter at its facility in Northeast Philadelphia. Boeing is responsible for the integration of military-specific equipment, as well as providing post-delivery support and maintenance for the aircraft.
