Ethiopian Airlines enhances MRO capabilities with Leap-1B Engine Test Cell at Addis Ababa Facility.
Ethiopian Airlines inaugurated its CFM Leap-1B engine test cell at the Addis Ababa MRO Services facility, Africa’s largest. This enhances their maintenance capabilities significantly. Moreover, This advancement equips the Airlines with full testing capabilities for the Leap-1B engine, utilized exclusively in Boeing’s 737 MAX aircraft.
Mr. Mesfin Tasew, Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer, said, “We feel proud for achieving full testing capability for the CFM Leap-1B engine at our modern MRO facility in Addis Ababa. The addition of this state-of-the-art facility will enable us to finalize the development of Performance Restoration Shop Visit (PRSV1) repair capability on the engine, which is expected to be ready very soon. We extend our appreciation to SAE, GE and the other partners who contributed to this success.”
Ethiopian Airlines is the fifth global facility, excluding SAE and GE networks, to launch the Leap-1B testing facility. Furthermore, This marks a significant milestone, making it the first in the Middle East and Africa with such advanced capabilities. Moreover, The airline aims to finish Phase 2 of the PRSV1 project by September 2024, expanding Leap-1B PRSV solutions regionally and globally.
