The Singapore Airlines Group has appointed Leslie Thng as the Executive Vice President, effective 1 July 2024 where he will contribute to the strategic direction and overall success of the Group while he continues to serve as the CEO of Scoot.

The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group has announced the promotion of Leslie Thng to Executive Vice President, effective 1 July 2024. Thng, 50, will continue to serve as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Scoot, SIA’s low-cost carrier subsidiary. He will report to SIA CEO Mr. Goh Choon Phong and the Board of Budget Aviation Holdings, the holding company for Scoot. The SIA Group’s decision to promote from within underscores its commitment to leveraging experienced internal talent to drive growth and innovation. Thng’s promotion is seen as a strategic move to fortify the Group’s leadership and maintain its competitive edge in the global aviation industry.

Leslie Thng’s journey with Singapore Airlines began in 1999. He has since held several key positions, including Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Prior to his current role, Thng was the CEO of Vistara, SIA’s joint venture with Tata Sons in India, from October 2017 to December 2021. Before his tenure at Vistara, he served as Scoot’s Chief Commercial Officer from May 2016 to October 2017 and was the Chief Executive of SIA’s former regional carrier, SilkAir, from August 2012 to May 2016.

Under Thng’s leadership, Scoot has experienced significant growth. By 2024, the airline’s capacity, passenger traffic, and load factors have all exceeded pre-pandemic levels. His strategic guidance has been instrumental in steering the airline through the challenges of the pandemic and positioning it for future success.

During his tenure at Vistara, Thng oversaw several milestones that solidified the airline’s standing in the competitive Indian aviation market. He led the launch of international flights and successfully integrated the Boeing 787-9 widebody aircraft into Vistara’s fleet, enhancing its capabilities as India’s preferred full-service carrier.

Thng’s promotion to Executive Vice President reflects his extensive experience and proven leadership within the SIA Group. His new role will enable him to contribute more significantly to the strategic direction and overall success of the Group.
