Embraer’s pioneer, E-Freighter program, reached a significant milestone as the first E190F, a converted jet from passenger transport to freighter, successfully completed its inaugural flight in São José dos Campos, Brazil. Conducted by the Embraer team, the flight lasted approximately two hours, during which a comprehensive evaluation of the aircraft was carried out. Further testing is scheduled before the E-Freighter officially enters operational service. The aircraft is owned by Regional One, a leasing company based in the United States.

The successful first flight marks the beginning of a comprehensive evaluation phase by Embraer to ensure the readiness of the E-Freighter jets for operational deployment. The aircraft has already demonstrated success in ground pressurization tests and cargo loading assessments, reflecting promising performance capabilities.

“The E-Freighter program opens a new business opportunity for Embraer, meeting e-commerce’s growing global demand for cargo transport and matching the high-tech E-Jets family to an unbeatable operational performance,” said Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO, Embraer. “We are very pleased with E190F’s and E195F’s fast progress during the testing period. These jets will be important tools for our customers and allow them to work with more agile and decentralized deliveries,” he further added.

Embraer’s E-Jets converted to freighters promise substantial advantages, including over 50% increased volume capacity compared to their passenger configurations, three times the range of large cargo turboprops, and up to 30% lower operating costs compared to narrow-body freighters. With a combined capacity under the floor and main deck, the E190F can handle a maximum structural payload of 13,500 kg, while the E195F can accommodate up to 14,300 kg.

The E190F and E195F Passenger to Freight Conversions (P2F) program was initiated in 2022 and involved collaboration with a global network of over 40 suppliers and more than 600 dedicated employees, who collectively contributed over half a million work hours to develop and refine the E-Freighter concept. This collaborative effort underscores Embraer’s commitment to innovation and delivering cutting-edge solutions that address the evolving needs of the aviation industry, particularly in the cargo transport segment driven by the rapid growth of e-commerce worldwide.
