AAR to support Alaska Airlines’ Boeing B737 fleet with 85,000 sq.ft. Oklahoma facility

AAR to support Alaska Airlines' Boeing B737 fleet with 85,000 sq.ft. Oklahoma facility.
The proposed hangar will have 85,000 sq.ft. of additional MRO space, designed to accommodate all variants of the Boeing 737, including the latest 737-10 model.

AAR will provide Alaska Airlines with a minimum of six lines of MRO support with plans to construct a new three-bay hangar adjacent to its current seven-bay facility at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City.

AAR Corp., a prominent provider of aviation services, has inked an agreement to extend its existing airframe maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services with Alaska Airlines until 2030. The agreement also includes an expansion of their heavy maintenance partnership. As part of the commitment, AAR will enhance its dedicated airframe narrowbody capacity, providing Alaska Airlines with a minimum of six lines of maintenance support. To facilitate this, AAR plans to construct a new three-bay hangar adjacent to its current seven-bay facility at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. The construction is contingent upon final approval by the Oklahoma City Airport Trust.

The proposed hangar expansion, totaling 85,000 square feet of additional MRO space, is designed to accommodate all variants of the Boeing 737, including the latest 737-10 model. Funding for the project is expected to come from a grant from the State of Oklahoma, complemented by rent concessions from Will Rogers World Airport over time. This facility expansion is projected to generate over 200 new jobs at AAR in Oklahoma City, and the company intends to fill these positions through its robust workforce development initiatives.

Don Wright, VP Maintenance and Engineering, Alaska Airlines said , AAR has supported Alaska Airlines for more than 20 years, and we are eager to continue deepening our partnership with AAR. AAR’s facility expansion aligns with our strategic MRO initiatives related to our growing fleet of all Boeing 737 variants.”

This expansion in Oklahoma City follows a similar initiative announced by AAR in Miami in early 2023. The expansion not only reinforces AAR’s commitment to providing top-notch MRO services but also underscores its positive impact on the community by creating additional career opportunities in aviation.

John M. Holmes, Chairman, President and CEO, AAR said, “Alaska Airlines is our longest-tenured Airframe MRO customer. We are exceptionally proud of our long history together. Like the expansion we announced in Miami this summer, our planned Oklahoma facility expansion will create opportunities to enhance our positive impact on the community by creating additional careers in aviation. We are thankful for the support of partners like Oklahoma City Airport Trust that help make this possible.”
