Sheltair begins construction of Hangar Extension at Kissimmee Gateway Airport
The new hangars will be equipped with hydraulic doors designed to meet the modern needs of pilots.

Sheltair is constructing three new hangars on 2.70 acres at Kissimmee Gateway Airport including nine 17,622 square feet oversized t-hangars, and ten box hangars, measuring 50ft x 50ft each, with a combined square footage of 25,000.

Sheltair, a family-owned aviation company, has initiated a significant expansion of its existing hangar facilities at the Kissimmee Gateway Airport (KISM) in response to the growing demand for aircraft storage. This expansion, part of the Phase IV development, underscores Sheltair’s commitment to Kissimmee and aims to contribute to the economic growth of the airport and the local community. Sheltair is embarking on a multi-million-dollar project spanning 2.70 acres to construct three new hangars at Kissimmee Gateway Airport. These will include nine oversized t-hangars, offering a total space of 17,622 square feet, and ten box hangars, measuring 50ft x 50ft each, with a combined square footage of 25,000.

The expansion is a response to the increasing demand for aircraft storage facilities at KISM. Sheltair, which has been managing approximately 115,973 square feet of hangar space at the airport since 2001, aims to address the needs of the aviation community in the region. The new hangars will be equipped with hydraulic doors designed to meet the modern needs of pilots. This reflects Sheltair’s commitment to innovation and ensuring that its facilities align with the evolving requirements of the aviation industry.

“This new expansion is a significant investment that reflects the company’s long-term commitment to the City of Kissimmee and the Airport. It further supports driving additional economic growth for the airport and community,” said Todd Anderson, Chief Operating Officer, Sheltair.

Kissimmee Gateway Airport serves as a crucial gateway to the growing business sector in Osceola County, which is expanding as a technology and agriculture hub. The airport is strategically positioned as the nearest airport to the state’s renowned attractions.

Construction on the new hangars is slated to be completed by early summer of 2024. This timeline indicates a relatively swift pace for the project, allowing for the timely availability of additional hangar space.

“The Kissimmee Gateway Airport is experiencing demands of significant aviation growth,” stated Shaun Germolus, Kissimmee Gateway Airport Director of Aviation. “Being at full hangar capacity, Sheltair’s foresight in constructing the additional hangar facilities will assist us in accommodating the needs of our aviation community.  We value our partnership with Sheltair and look forward to welcoming our new pilots and aircraft owners,” he further added.
