Lilium and CITIC Offshore Helicopter Co., Ltd (COHC) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly establish an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) operation network in China, with an initial focus on the Greater Bay Area. This collaboration marks a significant step in redefining regional air mobility by combining COHC’s extensive aviation services experience with Lilium’s cutting-edge eVTOL technology.

The agreement outlines a strategic partnership where Lilium and COHC will collaborate to develop services in response to market demand, aiming to introduce regular eVTOL services. The venture will kick off in the Greater Bay Area, encompassing additional services across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hainan Island, and Tianjin in the future.

The partnership strategically aligns COHC’s aviation service proficiency with Lilium’s innovative eVTOL capabilities. This follows Lilium’s preceding collaborations in China, including a partnership with Heli-Eastern and a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bao’an District of Shenzhen municipality. COHC and Lilium have a shared commitment to facilitate the launch of groundbreaking eVTOL services in the Greater Bay Area. This encompasses selecting production bases, conducting test flights, establishing after-sales service protocols, and identifying potential vertiport sites and partners.

A Representative, COHC said, “We’re looking forward to working with Lilium to build an eVTOL network in the Greater Bay Area and beyond. It’s important for our customers to be able to travel quickly, sustainably, and in premium comfort—and with Lilium, we’re excited to do just that.”

Lilium is dedicated to crafting a sustainable and accessible mode of high-speed, regional transportation using the Lilium Jet—an all-electric vertical take-off and landing jet. The Lilium Jet is designed to provide high capacity, low noise, and high performance with zero operating emissions, contributing to the decarbonization of air travel.

Klaus Roewe, CEO, Lilium said, The partnership highlights the shared aspirations of COHC and Lilium to create a sustainable and efficient aerial transportation system that addresses the growing demand for premium regional mobility solutions. China is expected to account for close to 25% of the eVTOL market and this announcement reaffirms our commitment to the region and desire to bring fast and sustainable travel to more people and to offer outstanding flight experiences for our customers.”

With a team of over 800 professionals, including approximately 450 aerospace engineers, Lilium collaborates with aerospace, technology, and infrastructure leaders. The company has garnered interest and sales in regions like Europe, the United States, China, Brazil, the UK, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
