AFI KLM E&M will deploy Prognos on Virgin Atlantic Airways fleet to Virgin Atlantic’s fleet of 17 Boeing 787 jets preventing AOG situations that can disrupt airline operations.

AFI KLM E&M and Virgin Atlantic Airways reinforced their longstanding collaboration by signing an agreement to deploy Prognos for Aircraft solutions for Virgin Atlantic’s fleet of 17 Boeing 787 aircraft. This partnership is set to usher in a new era of predictive maintenance, bolstered by AFI KLM E&M’s pioneering Prognos solution, which aims to optimize maintenance programs in both operational and economic terms.

Prognos for Aircraft introduces a new dimension of foresight into component and equipment maintenance planning. This technology employs AI and Big Data to continuously monitor aircraft components and systems. In practical terms, it can predict component and system failures up to 50 flights in advance. This advanced warning allows airlines to plan repair or replacement operations ahead of time, preventing Aircraft on Ground (AOG) situations that can disrupt airline operations.

This innovative solution builds upon the Component Support services that AFI KLM E&M has been providing to Virgin Atlantic since 2014. These services are already designed to ensure optimal aircraft availability and extensive coverage for Virgin Atlantic’s Boeing 787 fleet.

Neil Ambidge, VP Engineering & Maintenance, Virgin Atlantic Airways said, “Predictive maintenance is a paradigm shift for the industry and holds major potential for an operator like Virgin Atlantic. AFI KLM E&M has developed advanced expertise in this field and an acclaimed tool in Prognos, which already harnesses valuable amounts of data from the 787 fleets operated by Air France-KLM and its other customers. Virgin Atlantic will now be able to rely on this program to further enhance the reliability of our operation for our customers while also generating efficiencies we can benefit from.”

Virgin Atlantic, founded by Sir Richard Branson in 1984, is known for innovation and excellent customer service. In 2022, it was recognized as Britain’s only Global Five Star Airline by APEX for the sixth consecutive year in the Official Airline Ratings. The airline, headquartered in London, employs more than 7,500 people worldwide and serves 31 destinations across four continents. Virgin Atlantic’s recent expansion in the United States includes the launch of new routes to Austin, Texas, and Tampa, Florida.

Pierre Teboul, SVP Commercial at AFI KLM E&M said, “We’re honored and delighted that Virgin Atlantic is pursuing its long-standing shared history with AFI KLM E&M. Our innovative Prognos program is being taken up by more and more of our airline customers, with each one enhancing the tool’s effectiveness by enriching the data sets available. The tool is becoming a natural addition to standard support solutions, in order to maximize the value generated by maintenance operations.”
