Boeing and TAAG Angola Airlines have signed an order for four 787 Dreamliner jets, with the Airlines operating five 777-300ER, three 777-200ER, and seven 737-700 jets around the globe.

Boeing and TAAG Angola Airlines have announced an order for four highly fuel-efficient 787 Dreamliner aircraft, marking a significant addition to TAAG’s fleet. Currently, TAAG Angola Airlines operates a fleet that includes five 777-300ER (Extended Range) jets, three 777-200ERs, and seven 737-700s, serving destinations across Africa, Europe, South America, and China. Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook for Africa predicts that the continent will require 1,025 airplanes over the next two decades. Africa is expected to see air traffic growth at a rate of 7.4%, the third highest among global regions, surpassing the global average growth of 6.1%.

“Our goal is to work with the best manufacturers in the world towards a multi-type fleet, in order to ensure we have the appropriate airplanes for each flight typology, namely our intercontinental connections,” said Eduardo Fairen, CEO, TAAG Angola Airlines. “The 787 option suits our intent for modern, size-wise and efficient equipment, able to progressively replace our current widebody fleet, and provide our customers with an improved flight experience,” he further added.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family has been instrumental in launching more than 370 new nonstop routes worldwide since its revenue service debut in 2011. Compared to the aircraft it replaces, the 787 Dreamliner offers a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions. Passengers benefit from features like the largest windows of any jet, improved cabin humidity, lower cabin altitude for comfort, spacious overhead bins, soothing LED lighting, and turbulence-sensing technology for a smoother flight.

“The 787 Dreamliner will enable TAAG Angola Airlines to open new routes and expand their international network,” said Anbessie Yitbarek, vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Africa, Boeing. “The Dreamliner’s market-leading efficiency and passenger comfort will advance the carrier’s fleet modernization plans,” he further added.
