Astronics Corporation Experiences Surge in Orders for eVTOL Aircraft Electrical System Solutions

Astronics Corporation Experiences Surge in Orders for eVTOL Aircraft Electrical System Solutions.
The combined orders represent approximately $20 million in sales over the period to certification.

Astronics Corporation’s growing backlog of orders signifies its strong position in the eVTOL aircraft market and its commitment to advancing electrical power management solutions for a greener and more efficient future in air transportation.

Astronics Corporation, a prominent provider of advanced technologies for the aerospace and defense industries, has recently received purchase orders from ten original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft sector. These OEMs are actively involved in developing electrical aircraft for the emerging air mobility missions.

The purchase orders encompass various electrical power distribution, conversion, and vehicle charge control capabilities required for eVTOL aircraft. Among these orders is the prestigious program win to provide the enhanced CorePower® electrical power distribution system for the Lilium Jet.

In total, the combined orders represent approximately $20 million in sales over the period to certification and consist of hardware deliveries along with engineering support to achieve aircraft certification. The company will not only deliver the necessary hardware but also provide engineering support to assist in achieving the aircraft certification. Once certified, these initial sales are expected to pave the way for long-term production contracts, promising sustained growth for Astronics.

Astronics has developed a suite of capabilities and a family of products catering to the diverse electrical power management requirements of eVTOL aircraft. These solutions cover high voltage conversion from 800 VDC to 1000 VDC, converted down to 28 VDC, as well as low power distribution throughout the aircraft. The company’s hardware is designed to be compact and lightweight, ensuring dependable power management from the aircraft batteries to crucial flight systems, including flight controls, avionics, navigation, communication, sensors, lighting, and passenger comfort systems.

Jon Neal, President of Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems, said “Over the last few years Astronics has expanded its CorePower® product offerings to include a suite of high power electrical power management capabilities that are critical to the safe and efficient operation of small, electric aircraft. Our OEM customers have chosen Astronics because of our breadth of products, our technical expertise, and our commitment to supporting them through certification. Astronics is excited to be part of the electrification of aircraft moving towards more sustainable and cleaner modes of transportation.”
