Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces Boost Modernization Program with Acquisition of Leonardo’s Versatile C-27J Spartan Aircraft

Italy and Azerbaijan have reinforced their commercial collaboration through the signing of a contract for the supply of the C-27J Spartan. An Azerbaijani delegation visited Italy for the contract signing, attended by representatives of the Defense Ministers from both nations.

While the collaboration between Italy and Azerbaijan was initially focused on the energy sectors, it has now expanded to include defense industry products. This expansion was made possible by the invaluable contribution of the Italian Ministry of Defense working group. The procurement program for the C-27J, a tactical transport aircraft with a proven track record in the most demanding operational scenarios, was finalized through a technical round table involving the Italian Ministry of Defense and its Azeri counterpart. This agreement is part of Azerbaijan’s extensive modernization program for its Armed Forces, which increasingly rely on Italian industry products.
