FedEx Express launches new operating base in Malpensa

FedEx Express, the world’s biggest express transportation company and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. launched the full operation of the new international hub for southern Europe at ‘Milan Malpensa airport. A project that, leverages 30 years of established presence in Italy, is another milestone in the growth of FedEx in Europe to meet the needs of businesses and Italian and European customers.

“95% of consumers in the world live outside US borders: the primary objective of FedEx is therefore expand in places of greater profitability and break down barriers, to enable our customers to reach new markets,” said David Cunningham, president and CEO of FedEx Express. “Connect a growing number of people and opportunities results in business development, in new employment opportunities, more efficient connections and consequently for economic growth”.

The new structure, highly programmed and set with the most modern technological systems and equipment, has a total of 35,000 square meters and will boost as much as 25% the capacity to shipment sorting, better effectiveness that will allow FedEx to respond in the most effective volume growth, continuing to provide brilliant service to its clients.

“The Malpensa expansion is a key step in our strategy of expanding our network, to create greater capacity and allow more connections in Europe and the rest of the world,” said David Binks, president of FedEx Express Europe and CEO TNT. “The new hub in southern Europe is an important step in the realization of the most important logistical network on the continent.”

“Only in Italy, the number of the person making online purchases has doubled over the past five years and in 2016 was estimated an increase of 17% compared to 2015” continued Binks.

FedEx Express operates in Italy since 1986. Malpensa airport became the first hub in 1992 where over 60% of Italian products were produced in a range of 250 km from Malpensa for export and was home to 40% of domestic enterprises which account for nearly half of the country’s GDP. FedEx has invested heavily in Italy by opening 24 new locations in recent years and introduced a direct cargo flight to Memphis, Tennessee ensuring the fastest transit times from Italy to the United States.
